It has been so lonely without posts to read in the google group :( --Dero 12:56, 3 October 2008 (EDT)
LET US SHAKE THINGS UP A LITTLE
The pricing of defenders and attackers is completely out of whack based on their abilities and leads to stagnation at high-end play, as players are almost inevitably far too well defended for anyone to make a profit attacking them regardless of how many resources they have stockpiled. Defenders should be more expensive - a LOT more expensive, especially considering their 25% loss rate - and attackers should be cheaper to encourage attacks between high-level players. Say, 10 for attackers, 30 or 40 for defenders. That would make things a lot more interesting, and it could be done on the fly by simply determining what value of attackers/defenders are on a row in the old system and replacing them with an equal value under the new prices.

Sounds interesting. They could even make it so each shard has different costs to see what works best and what doesn't. For example, Shard 1 could be left as is, Shard 2 could have the costs for Attackers and Defenders both at 20, Shard 3 could have Attackers cost 10, Defenders cost 20, Shard 4 have Attackers cost 10, Defenders cost 30/40, and Shard 5 have something completely different. It could help the developers figure out the best balance by seeing which shard is the most active. Just my 2 cents. -acero47
I like that idea of having scaling attacker/defender cost for a row based on its AM/DM, with AM 1 rows having highest costs per attacker and defender to coerce people into having high AM/DM rows, which would lead to more people attacking as there would be more targets in range for those currently lonelyish higher AM rows. E.g. cost per attacker on an AM 4 row could be 200/4=50, cost per attacker on an AM 10 row = 200/10=20, etc. A side effect of this is that people can cheap-out by buying attackers for their high AM rows and then transfer them across to their low AM rows. An example for defenders is DM2 = 800/2 = 400 per defender, DM10 = 80 per defender, the cost can be offset by being able to buy higher DM than your required AM, e.g. for a 6/8 row: attackers would cost about 33, defenders 100 instead of 133 if you kept it at DM6. --218.215.15.164 22:03, 3 October 2008 (EDT)
The only problem with this is that new users just starting out would not be able to afford any attackers/defenders. According to your formula, it would cost 400 for each attacker and 800 for each defender. It's an interesting idea, but they'd have to give some sort of newbie grace period, and possibly the ability to reset all their rows in case they get slammed. -acero47
